Polystone and its Advantages
This replicated Asura Statue is made from polystone. This is a compound that mostly consists of powdered stone and polyurethane resin. The powdered stone is an additive that increases the weight of the statue.
Polystone allows artisans to sculpt smaller details to achieve the exact appearance unlike wood sculpting. The material is also resistant against deformation and drying. Also, the material enhances colors which makes a sculpted piece more beautiful.
The Asura
Originally, the Asura was the god of battle. It has three faces and six arms. It is one of the eight protectors of Buddhism and its believers as a subordinate to the Shakyakai. Initially, it was a rogue demon, but it was mentally and intellectually taught by Buddhist teachings. The Asura eventually became a guardian of Buddhism.
Asura are warriors who live for battle and desire war. They have a large ego and always want to be better than others. They do not tolerate those who are weaker than them, and they choose to solve problems through violence.
In other Buddhist traditions, the realm of the Asura is known to be the lowest level of heaven. They are controlled by their emotions. Because of that, achieving enlightenment to become Buddha is almost impossible. They are not able to escape the cycle of eternal reincarnation.
Souls who are reborn in this realm are often those of people who lived good lives. However, they eventually committed wicked deeds by harming others. This stops them from their rebirth in a higher realm in heaven.
The Three Different Faces of the Asura
The Asura are fearsome demonic gods. They have multiple faces and arms. Their appearance, size, and strength are barely close to that of mortals.
When it comes to their rank and power, the Asura is higher compared to humans. However, they are below other deities. They reside at the foot of Mount Sumeru, in an area surrounded by the sea.
